JANUARY 2010

Happy New Year every one.  Just a few quick notes to fill you in you on what's been going on lately, and update you to coming events.

The month of December is always a hectic one, and yet apx.7 couples from the club managed to head up north to Troy N.H. and spend the weekend with Paul Cote and Ted Lizzotte.  It was a cold, but fun filled weekend with generous amounts of food, great music and dancing, but more importantly renewing friendships from last year's weekend, and making new ones. We had a wine tasting, a cookie tour, a snowy, cold and fun filled hayride in the dark with a few hearty souls...and dancing dancing dancing.  Paul described the weekend as follows..."We wake in the morning, head down for breakfast.  Dancing at 9.  From there we break for lunch.  After lunch there will be a couple of different workshops, both round and square.  You will have some free time, so make sure to stop over by the kitchen for homemade cookies and donuts.  We will dine at 6 so save room.  Dancing will begin at 730 going to end at 1030, after which there will be a light snack and some entertainment to end the evening.  Tomorrow it all begins again"  A good time was had by all, with most of us signing up for the next year.

Our Christmas party was, as usual, a huge success, hosting just over 60 people.  Thank you to all who helped with set up and clean up.

A tradition seems to have been set in the last three years, in that Mother Nature has snowed on our December dance night!  As hard as we tried not to, we had to cancel again this year, due to the potential weather conditions.  While we missed the dancing, we all agreed it's just not worth it to have people out and traveling in bad weather.  Plans are now in the works for our next Christmas dance to be scheduled on July 1st  :)

Coming Events

January 16 is our next dance.  It will be a plus dance with Dave Perrault calling and Henry Barry cuing.

January 17 is the Green Mountain Association Snowflake Ball being held at the St. Monica School in Barre, VT.  This is a dance geared towards beginner dancers.  Its the perfect opportunity to take your newly acquired skills and test them with other beginning dancers, as well as dancing to different callers.  This dance has proven to be a good time over the years.  Its a long ride, but make a weekend of it, and take the opportunity to get away, test your skills and meet new people.

January 20 is our next board meeting, 7pm at Stephanie's office.  Remember, any club member wishing to attend is always welcome.

Friday, February 5 is our Beginner's Ball, with our own Bob and Henry.  This is a wonderful time for all of our beginner dancers to come and test what you've learned. This dance is for YOU!  All club members are invited and encouraged to come and support our class and to join in the fun.

February 5 and 6 is the 7th annual T 'N T Jubilee weekend with national caller Tony Oxendine, and Ted Lizzotte.  You have the choice of one dance session (1 night), or all three (the weekend).  This is for the more experienced dancer, and guaranteed to be a good time.

February 20 is our club dance.  Bob Butler will be calling and Harriet Clarke will be cuing.  This is our "Dance for Dinners" dance.  All foods collected will be donated to the R.I. Food bank.  If you haven't already, now is a good time to begin watching for sales and collecting non perishable food items.  We will have a box here if you want to bring items in, and will continue this until the night of the dance.  Due to the generosity of square dancers, we collected a large amount of food last year, and we would like to continue in that tradition.  Any questions see Kat, or a board member.  Also Town Howlers will be raiding that night, so we will need finger foods please.

We are still looking for a couple of volunteers to help out in the kitchen.  We are asking that 1 or 2 people volunteer to "take" a month.  All that means is that you're there to help Marge set up/clean up for workshop as well as that month's dance.  Marge has been doing this job for too many years to count, and we feel it's past time the responsibility fall back to the club and not any one person.  If you haven't already signed up, please consider doing so.  Please see Marge if you have any questions, or if you are interested, and thank you in advance for your help in this.

Lastly, there are flyers for most of the above mentioned events, and more to come.  If you don't see what you need, ask Lisa.  Please check the table often, take a few and pass them around.

That's all for now...keep warm everyone and keep dancing
